18F
I was hired as a Content Designer in 2018 and was promoted to co-supervise the content group in 2022. It was an incredible privilege to help supervise the most talented group of content strategists I’ve ever worked with.
18F viewed teaching as a huge part of its role in the federal tech ecosystem. Its guides were and are used widely to help agencies, state governments, and private companies improve the way they buy and build digital assets.
I supported, rewrote, and maintained the 18F Content Guide, and, together with a colleague, completely rewrote the general site in 2023.
I also helped craft a new workflow for our blog and edited many, many blog posts.
IRS Direct File
I served as 18F project lead and content strategist during the last portion of the IRS Direct File project.
I worked on retirement income-related content.
I developed language to help tax filers understand how to file for income reported via 1099 forms, focusing on making it clear to users what they needed to do in order to finish their taxes quickly and easily. I helped another 18F content strategist with a style guide for Direct File, and was happy to contribute to a talented group of content strategists who were dedicated to making the tax filing process a little less cumbersome and tedious for Americans.
(I also cajoled this hard-working team to take breaks!)
Other projects
Some other, less public projects I worked on at 18F included a news publishing system for the State Department briefing center called The Watch, a collaboration strategy for the Department of Energy, and information architecture for the NIH.
